CHANGE OF INTENTIONS OR PLANS

Express and ask about past intentions that changed with:

1. Was / were going to

2. Would

Look at the example . . .

“ I’m going to call you at 8 pm.”

...indicates FUTURE PLAN

“ I was going to call you, but I forgot!”

.... a past plan that didn't happen

It is used to express and ask about past intentions and plans that changed, we use:

+ Subject + was/were going to + verb in base form.

-  subject + was/were NOT going to + verb in base form.

? was/were + subject + going to + verb in base form + ?

I was going to get married but I didn’t.

I wasn’t going to stay but my friends talked me into it.

Were they going to study law?

When were you going to study?

Would + base verb

Use would only in a noun clause following verbs like :

thought, believed or said

I thought I would become a doctor. (but I didn’t)

They said they would come to class, but something came up.
